In this episode we talk about the Blender Cloud's Texture Library (already out!), the status of the Character Library, and how we got to work at the Blender Institute. The Cloud subscribers' questions cover rendering GPU vs GPU, Caminandes' Koro's spirals, Caminandes VR, eye highlights and animation tips.
No movie review this time, we mention Star Wars but *without spoilers*, so don't worry, we just say that you should probably watch it, which yeah, you should.
On the podcast: Pablo, Andy, Sarah and Francesco.
Next podcast will only be me (Pablo, so we warned it will probably be super boring), since the rest of the team is out for the holidays. So it might be better to focus the questions on topics I can cover, like Caminandes, lighting, front-end web development, Patagonia, llamas, pink, pink-llamas, you name it. Last minute update: Sarah will also be at the podcast, so ask her stuff too! Especially animation + character design + concept art. Leave your questions in the comments below.
*** Done! We've just finished recording the podcast with Sarah, Andy, and Beorn. Soon up! ***
See you next week.
The Blender Institute Team
The characters I would like to see most are Proog, Sintel and Buck. I've tried opening each character up in their respective versions of blender, but I find them very hard to use. They also don't integrate well with more current scenes. Of course, I'd like to see the Cosmos rigs as well, but they're already modern enough. I especially like Cosmos and Glass Half rigs and character designs.
Thanks for doing the asset libraries.
Proog is already there! Well, it's bundled in the .blend file for the poster. So yes, it's kinda hidden, that's why we're making the Characters library. We'll split the characters into nice downloadable assets. There's SO much in the Cloud, it just needs to be organized (we'll have search soon, that'd help).
Hey guys, thanks for answering the questions, I learnt a lot!, i'm sure gonna implement some stuff for lollypoman, hehe.
Cheers, and again great job!
Hey Pablo. We're all loving Caminandes and appreciating all the work on the cloud you guys are doing.
My question is a more general one about growing the Blender user-base. I think we can all agree, more users is better for everybody and Blender seems to be growing lately.
What do you think is the best way to attract more users to blender? Is it great art? Good teaching? Improved tools? Helpful community?
Thanks for your time!
Hola Pablo!! Happy holidays. I just have some questions: 1) What are your thoughts about the Caminandes series so far, did you imagine it will grew so big when you created Koro? 2) How did you get involve with web development? and 3) When are you coming to Ecuador? Un abrazo
