Hi guys! What is the expected release date for Sybren's Python course? I am really looking forward to that one. Thanx, and keep up the good stuff!
@Lepelaar: Hi! Scripting for Artists is planned to be released by the end of August. I'm so looking forward to it as well, it's going to be a huge resource for any artist!
@scruffybearx: The download link for previous versions is still there, though it had been moved to the bottom of the download page in a recent redesign of the site. The direct link is this one: https://www.blender.org/features/releases/
The upgrade to 2.8 will be challenging for many existing users. When the upgrade to 2.5 came, the same effect was visible: Everything was changed, everything in a different location, tools were missing or behaved differently. Google would spit out two entirely different solutions to the same problem. As you mentioned, the effect was that a lot of people sticked with 2.49 for a while before making the switch. I'd expect a similar effect with studios (like us), as existing pipelines will take some time to upgrade. But the benefits outweight the issues IMO, so ultimately it will happen.
The nice thing about confusion is, it makes a group of people re-think something that was established already, which in the long run leads to clarity.
@PabloVazquez: Some of the Cloud tutorials are way out of date...switching form max/maya is version 2.63..(no tabs in toolbar) even... .I don't even see an option on the Blender site to download any versions of Blender pre 2.79 anymore.... so not that helpful....Though the thought is appreciated...
.In mean time, what are users/community supposed to do when 2.8 comes around? If older versions (2.8c and before) no longer compatible or available, what will happen to the huge library of youtube videos we've been depending on for years?
You guys should be thinking about that now....
Ohterwise there will be chaos, confusion and newbies will reject Blender because a lot of the most helpful resources will be useless...( I know you guys want to move on, and loyal Blenderheads will stick with you, but we should have access to old versions for use with old videos, until 2.8 stuff is up and running smoothly...
And "transitioning from old to new Blender tutorials would be a huge help....maybe just intersperse some old videos with "this no longer applies, try this instead" clips inserted so that they are not totally useless until better (2.79/2.8) ones are released.... (It will be like starting over with 2.5 again)
