Dalai joins us for his last podcast (for now!) before going back to sunny beaches in Brazil, but not before telling us all about Blender 2.8. Francesco shares his experience at PIXELvienna. Andy had fun with particles on the upcoming open movie project, directed by Hjalti who unveils a new name for it!
In this podcast: Dalai Felinto, Andy Goralczyk, Pablo Vazquez, Hjalti Hjalmarsson, Francesco Siddi.

Hi there! I have 2 questions:
1- Are there any plans on the Compositor for 2.8? I've heard a long ago about a Compositor refactoring, it's going to happen in 2.8?
2- Any news about last year's Summer of Code project about Multiview Camera reconstruction? (It was about using two clips for better tracking).
Cheers!
Don't leave us, Dalai! :'( Thank you for everything! :'( Best of luck!
Thank you for answering my questions guys... and making fun of my episode nerdiness -.-
I have a few other questions. I have been using Substance for about a year now and I came across a forum thread on the Allegorithmic website regarding a Blender plugin. Basically, they were asking why there wasn't a Blender plugin for Substances and the staff replied by saying it was because of Blender's licensing. Is this true? If so, how does Blender's licensing affect Allegorithmic or any other company? Isn't there a way around this? What other programs are out there, that do what Substance Designer does, that do have Blender compatibility?
@Armando Tello: There are a few "plugins" for Blender that use a completely separate build of Blender to implement the plugin in a way which skirts around the GPL license requiring that derivative software must also be open source under the GPL. I think Octane is an example of this, and I don't think they have a version of octane running in the latest Blender because of this. I remember hearing somewhere that one of the goals of 2.8 was better interoperability with other software, though I'm not sure if that goal was met with Alembic or if there are grander plans to make some kind of plugin system that allows tighter integration of closed source plugins, such as adding a rendering engine etc.
I'd love to hear from the devs on their plans for increasing to ability of Blender to work with closed-source plugins or if that is something not on the immediate horizon (such as for 2.8).
@Andrew Palmer: thank you for your answer Andrew! Yes, it would be great to hear from the devs talk about future compatibility plans. Also, I will have to check Octane out.
On a side note... I saw blender being used in a news piece by the WSJ called North Korea 'Decoders' Are Sounding Alarms | Moving Upstream. It seems they're using it to build ICBM models to do some calculations... Or maybe just the models being shown in the video, either way, you can check it out on youtube. It only shows up for a second, literally, but it's still cool to see blender in action.
