At the 2024 Blender Conference I gave a workshop about the craft of previs and layout, with a fun "Ice Cream Parlour" scene as a demonstration.
I managed to condense a staggering amount of material into the roughly 45 minute time slot, but still wished there had been more time to go over some of the topics in more detail. So, right after the conference, I sat down and recorded a 2 hour extended version of this workshop.
The workshop can be found here: Ice Cream Parlour: Previs and Layout
It goes over topics such as the difference between previs and layout, how to analyse a script, the workflow a previs/layout with a static camera versus a shot driven performance, how much sound can influence the final product, the balancing act of a previsualization artist and various tips and trick on all of these topics.
It also includes the previs/layout blend file used for the demonstration so you can download it, roll up your sleeves and get your hands dirty.
Hope you enjoy!
