Last week on Pet Projects…
As Pablo and Mack Bo jumped into more animated shots, Rik worked on the overal edit to check continuity. When layout is done, it's the best time to go over every shot, by sequence, and look at details to make sure everything is consistent. Though we also need to keep an eye on the global project to keep the story flowing and check if there's any missed beat. Once shots get to animation, fixing anything would be more difficult and time consuming.
On the Assets side, Beau wrapped up his last files (fingers crossed!) with some props and the final modeling details on the Rocket Exterior. Those assets can now go to rigging and shading, to get bones and colors!
On that note, Simon kept working on shading and polished the texture we intend to overlay all shots with. Between line work, flat colors, characters and sets, every element need to have specific effects with differences in intensity in speed. Thus Simon made different tests to find the right combination that can be used as the basis everywhere.
As for Vivien, there is no rest yet! Our Art Director started putting together the colorscript so Andy could have more information on the light and color direction for each sequence. Often colorscripts are done in preproduction - an exercise Vivien had done before indeed. However because of the change in scope of the movie and all the additional details, this needed to be worked on again from the ground up. She chose to wait for a first pass of lighting to work from so her feedback would be more concrete. Here we don't want to reveal too much, but Studio website subscribers can have a detailed look at this key piece of the production. In parallel, Vivien worked on some references for FX - something that Simon has yet to tackle... maybe next week?
Pet Projects is currently in production and the progress can be followed here on the Blender Studio website.
