The past several months of development and pre-production for project Gold have been creatively and technically challenging, and while we have achieved some exciting advancements, as we head into production it’s clear that there is not enough creative energy left to execute the project at the level it deserves.
After careful consideration, and in consultation with the Blender Studio crew and with the director, I’ve taken the sad and difficult decision to stop the production of project Gold after completing the current phase of preproduction.
With this in mind, we will create a showcase featuring a selection of shots and breakdowns, executing them to the best of our abilities and delivering it to the Blender community as a demonstration and tribute to our efforts. Along with the showcase, the studio will make sure that the complete process and data will be shared through assets, production logs and blog posts on the studio website for all subscribers to enjoy.
I’d like to sincerely thank Jericca for supporting the proposal to rework the project into this form, all the additional creative contributors to the project, and the Blender Studio team for rising to this new creative challenge.
Francesco
so looking forward to this
brutal. so looking forward to this . hopefully you guys can come back to a water movie in later stages of the blender development. Blessings!
So sad to hear but completely understandable. My animation classes have been reviewing the impressive progress of the project. All of the students have been so impressed with the production, workflow information, and assets that have been shared! Jerrica is an incredible story alchemist and the talented Blender Studio team are a force of nature!
Maybe we can partner on this project. Can we take the lead on this, I have my own production studio and we are looking into starting an animation department.
I feel the completed format of an art form is just a byproduct of a particular journey of learning and experience. Each exploration that is shared has the potential to be the key to the next vision that is waiting.
No problem ! Project are always "cancel" / stop in video game and such.
It's a mistake to quit. If it's a lack of creative energy, take a break. Come back fresh a month later if necessary, just don't quit. The Blender studio puts out films. Finish the film. You'll be more greatful for having finished than quitting.
Oh gosh, that must've been a tough call to make and accept. For what it's worth, making a call instead of letting it be gray area, and ending up halfway is probably the better way to take, but not easy regardless. It's been incredible to even watch the preproduction and I'm sure whatever form it'll take will still be quite the unique set of shots.
Damn, this was looking so good! I am very sad to hear this. Things happen and am sure you have made the correct decision considering the circumtances. Look forward to your future projects when you're all ready! Thanks for the inspiration Blender Studio Team! 🧡
Are people burned out? I hope everyone is ok. The showcase will be epic and it's always amazing learning from you all.
Sad news, whatever I saw in the production logs was extremely inspiring!, I hope the decision is for the best and I can't wait to see what you guys do next anyways.
Oh, I'm so sorry to hear this, can I use all of these assets, scripts, and storyboards to develop into a movie? If so, please give me a word so we can continue. I joined to watch the movie but unfortunately it was stopped, but we will continue to do it, if approved by Blender!!!
I'm so sorry to hear this--I know it was a difficult decision. I look forward to learning from your experiences on this project, and wishing you all the very best as you navigate the discovery of the next project
Oh, I'm so sorry to hear this. I understand how difficult it must've been taking this decision. I hope you all had a positive experience while working on it!
@Andy Cuccaro Just a thought: Will the script or a description of the story be available in some form (maybe as an animatic or storyboard, or something else)?
@Andy Cuccaro i will ask around!
@Rik Schutte Thank you! Lots of love.
Sorry to hear that. Look forward to seeing the showcase though.Take a breather and move on to whats next!
