Elder Sprite makes sure that the values and traditions of Sprite Village are upheld and preserved. And when somebody misbehaves, he makes sure that the punishment shall fit the crime. Although you could say his methods are a bit... old school.

Notes on how to use the character

  1. Put your 3D cursor in the Origin of your scene. Choose File > Link and browse the character file
  2. Go to the Collections and select CH-elder_sprite. Make sure "Instance Collections" is enabled. Press Enter.
  3. The Collection should appear instanced in the Viewport. Select it.
  4. Choose Object > Library Override > Make.

If you have run into any problems, let us know in the comments below. If you make something cool with this character, make sure to show it to us!

https://vimeo.com/697605183 Here's a link to a video I did with Elder Sprite. It was my first every character animation ever and thus my first with Blender. I did it after watching the Blender Basics and Animation Fundamentals vids. This was about 4 hours of animation, followed by 16 hours of rendering! LOL

It's not perfect and could use more work, but I wanted to give myself a 4 hour limit just to see if I could convey feelings and life. Thanks for sharing the rig. It made it so easy to just jump right in and start animating.

@Thomas Ortega II It's a start, keep it up! Unfortunately rendering him to look like he did in Sprite Fright is extremely expensive, but that's fluffy CG hair for ya I guess!

@Demeter Dzadik Yup, to be honest, I didn't even realize it was fluffy hair until after I did a test render.

I'm experiencing lower viewport performance with this model compared to other Sprite Fright models (I can get a steady 60 with others). Is there a setting I can mess with?

@Martin Philip Pedrosa Hey, not sure why this would happen, I'm getting 64fps after opening the file and placing some keyframes on my 5 year old PC at home on a 4 day old build of Blender 3.3. Are you sure you didn't touch the Quality or Particle Hair settings in the rig UI? Those will easily tank performance to seconds per frame territory.

@Demeter Dzadik I didn't touch those settings but opening this on 3.3 fixes my FPS and now I'm getting a steady 60. Must have been something with my earlier version install.

this file has a virus, so  my anti virus program is not allowing me to download it.

@shmuel lowenbraun I recommend getting a better antivirus program! :D

@Demeter Dzadik I use mcafee. what do you recomend?

@shmuel lowenbraun Well first things first, you should check out the life (and alleged death) of John McAfee, it's quite a ride. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_McAfee Other than that, if you don't trust this site to not host viruses, you shouldn't trust it with antivirus recommendations! :D If you're on Windows, you already have Windows Defender built in.
