Follow the latest updates and progress on Sprite Fright.
Retopology for Sprite Fright’s final character is completed. Much shading work, including animated shaders and tests for the demise of some important figures. As the animation deadline approaches, shots are completed at a rapid pace. Lighting for moments located around the Sprite Village, plus clay renders of the film’s opening.
Gerard and I have teamed up to bring to life this new sequence: nightfall!! Hope you like watching the progression of this, there's more to come!!
This week I wrapped up the set dressing work on the log bridge set, got the log bridge trunk and chasm tree props to an almost final state and worked on various props for the Sprite Village and Mushroom Grove animations.
I somehow managed to spend some time coding stuff, yay! Also Jay can now open his mouth wide enough to eat a puppy whole, and I slapped some bones on some props.
This week I worked on lighting 130_snacks and the first adorable shots of the cute Sprites in 040_village. Jay also got his hair done, at leas the grooming part of it, in the coming weeks, his shading will be finalized by Simon.
This week, Pablo Fournier, Javier Perez, Daniella Alives, Tom Pinon and myself finalled a bunch of 'Snacks' shots. The sequence is close to being wrapped up! We still have 2 more weeks to animate the remaining shots, address revisions and give it our all. Next did some rig testing of Jay, made some expressions. Jay will be starring in 'Drown' and 'Yew'.
This week I did a bunch of different thing on the production. It was mostly about figuring out effects, like the animated shaders for some shot specific shading effects and doing some initial tests on melting Sprites. Then I also did shading on a couple of the props that were needed for rendering and an initial shading transfer on Jay for his new topology. A big topic also was figuring out the tech for Elder Sprite's beard, more of this next week as well.
Phil is ready for the next steps; rigging, surfacing, and grooming. Retopology on all characters is now completed!
This week, my goal was to create another batch of vectorized packaging labels. Aside from the labels, there is a greater focus on lighting the spray shots this week.
This week I watched on boarding videos and familiarized myself with the pipeline. I also started a rough blocking pass on my first shot on the drown seq and created a pee cycle for the Sprite’s for upcoming shots in the seqs.
Phil’s retopology nears the finish. Procedural shading focuses on conveying Ellie’s distress. Two rigging addons take major steps, plus lighting progress on key scenes. Also: packaging for parodies of ‘80s snacks, props for the opening scene, and much new animation.
Phil retopology and finalizing in progress. Completed his eyes, iris shape keys, teeth with alternate teeth 'square' shape key, tongue, head, and rig helper face mesh.
Besides the usual random bugs in our pipeline that needed fixing I picked up some smaller tasks on set shading. The main chunk of my week went to organizing and implementing the different stages of distress of our main character Ellie.
Rigged some props, finished Jay's body, added a big new feature to my EasyWeight addon, and also fixed all major bugs I was aware of in CloudRig over the weekend just for fun! ^^
The scenes 060_scratch and 100_haircut got their second (and final) lighting pass this week. There will still be some shading adjustments on Ellie for her final distressing (dirt) texture layers.
During my second week, I continued working on the packaging labels and started to light the Spray set. My efforts will be on completing the Spray set lighting and create another set of packaging labels.
This week I set up the log bridge set and created the "Log Bridge Trunk" and "Chasm Tree" props for later animation. You can also see the latest live stream where I showed the file setup and pipeline further.
Howdy Blender Clouders! I'm here to update you on behalf of the animation team! This week we have been animating tons of shots on the 'snacks' sequence. The biggest chunk of animation so far with lots of throwing, slicing and cutting. It's getting rough for Ellie! Pablo, Tom, Gerard, Monica, Dani and Javi are responsible for the animation.
Today I'm excited to show you my favorite shot of the movie: three sprites saving a poor little spider. I was so lucky to have this one, it's such a fun and cute shot and I'm happy with the result! YAY!
Jay’s face rig is ready for testing. Lighting for an action scene. A brand-new production lesson on character shading. The yew tree set is prepared, and animation is completed on two sequences.
This week RIk, Pablo, Javier and I have finished haircut sequence!! I also was able to animate the missing voice line for Rex on shot 030 of homerun, so, that makes homerun also finished!
This week I did all the most important set work for the yew tree. This way the animation and intial lighting can already take place. There were also some extra adjustments for the mushroom grove and sprite village set.
During my first week, I focused on addressing the Scratch and Haircut sets. Filling them with trees, plants, and rocks, basically extending the sets. At the end of the week, I started working on the packaging of the snacks. This will be my main focus for the coming two weeks.
This week I recorded a production lesson about the distressed character shading and did a full pass on Ellie regarding that. That was my main focus in the week but otherwise I Fixed some UV stretching issues for facial animation, did a proper shading pass on the generic Sprite, did basic FX for the shot where Ellie cuts her hair and some minor other general shading adjustments.
This week I tried to get a head start with lighting on 060_scratch and 100_haircut. Both scenes got a first pass of lighting which will be improved next week.
Another varied week with some forest creature tweaks, prop rigs and improvements to my addons and CloudRig, but most importantly; Jay's face is ready for testing and feedback!
This week Rik, Monica, Javier and I were working and almost finishing the spray sequence
This week I created this little Evil sprite idle, to be used later on in bigger scenes.
Spoilers ahead: an action sequence is animated. Multiple tweaks on the Sprite Village. Rigging on Elder Sprite is completed, and rigging for Jay begins. A video showcasing Victoria in distress, and many other shading updates. Final lighting on two crucial moments. Plus: initial work from the team's new animators.
This week Rik, Pablo, Javier and me have continued working on the haircut sequence and almost finished!
This week I wrapped up my work on the Sprite Village Set. All of this work should be enough for the sequence of shots of 40-Village. After that I updated the mushroom grove set to work with animations in the sequence 130-Snacks and moved on to put together the set file of the Yew Tree for the sequences 90-Yew and 120-Drown. More on that next week.
Finished Elder Sprite who is a big ball, and got started on Jay who is a big cylinder! Also rigged the snacks, and some other stuff.
This week I got around to finally pick up a whole bunch of shading tasks that have been piling up while I was busy fixing breaking files and preparing our pipeline for the work to come. So I'm really glad that I could do the full shading passes for the distressed versions of Victoria and Rex and do the shading of Rex' cricket bat. Besides that I reworked the patterns of the sprite dots so those can be finalized and picked up some minor things that were left-over, but of course there is always also a little bit of breaking files and geometry nodes design on my agenda. So yeah, busy week!
Among other things, I completed the lighting of the scenes 070_homerun and 110_rextoria this week.
Between meetings, dailies, reviews and production, i managed to squeeze out this little test with the ladybug. Ultimately this will be done with some proper controls within the rig, but just to test how this feels with Grease Pencil.
It's my first week on the project!! I've made some cute sprites idles doing cute things to use for BG. Are they the most adorable and most innocent creatures ever? Find out in Sprite Fright!!
This week Nacho and I have been working on sequence 060 (scratch). Almost finished at this point =). Hoping to finish it next week. Enjoy!
Started Phil retopology. Completed his clothing, shirt, shorts, sandals, with some revisions addressed.
