In this video I am going over the way tools and brushes work in the current version of Blender 2.80 Beta and how to get the most out of their settings. This is for the most part based on my own artistic observation and not the underlying code. If you are interested in the actual brushes I am using and that I am talking about in the video go here.
The background sculpt was based on a concept by Ngan Pham.
Hi Julien. I have a question; In the first few minutes of the video you use an addon "SpeedSculpt" to delete a part that you had masked with the command "mask operations - Remove - Delete masked part. Is this an external paid addon? Because this feature in blender is not there, or maybe we can find it with brush box trim, but I don't think it's the same.
@francesca pracanica Almost all of the functionality from this addon is now in Blender by default. You can now just mask off a part and use the "Mask Slice" or "Mask Extract" operators in the header menu "Mask".
@Julien Kaspar I didn't know, thank you very much.
For your work experience, I know the question is subjective and depends on many factors. But in general have you found problems using mask slice, or mask slice and fill hole in a mesh with many polygons, 1 million or more?. blender might crash and it is better to use other methods to deal with what you have to do?. I just want to know your opinion
@francesca pracanica Yes these can be quite slow to use. On very high resolution meshes I can recommend to use the "Line Project" and Fairing options in the "Face Set Edit" tool and afterwards remesh.
@Julien Kaspar Ok understand, it always depends on what you have to do because the options, even of the same brushes or tools are many.
My questions are in reference to your video, where you remove a part that comes out, like the leg. You mask it and you could do "mask slice", or "mask slice and fill hole". Or invert the mask and use the brush "line project". Or use the draw face set and then edit face set where there's a "fair position" option and others.
Thanks Julien, I try to learn from these questions.
This has been so enlightening for me! I honestly have been struggling with sculpting and this has helped a ton!
Whelp, that right there was worth the price of subscription :) You have no idea how helpful that was for me. Really great demo and explanations. That lumpy default Grab brush alone had me convinced I was just sculpting wrong. Now I finally know what was going on.
Awesome video. And thanks again for the brushes file!
