Robot Animation Research

Francesco Siddi

Producer

flag Report Problem

In this video, Rik –lead animator– recaps a few weeks of work of the animation department, as they research an appealing and believable animation style for some of the robots in the Project Heist.

High quality version of the videos (and soon the animation files) are available in the Content Gallery.

Dear Francesco, Great animation. I am thinking on all the cables and connections between rotation parts like head with shoulders or body and  legs. I am thinking from the engineering point of view that it will be very difficult to build a robot like that and I think that for this reason it is a good idea. Thanks for sharing.

I really like the way the animations look and it's really awesome to see the research going into it.

@Manuel Albert but there's one thing I think should be considered. If you look at all the videos from boston dynamics you can see that the hips are shifting (more) to left abd right balancing the weight. In the walk samples from the video above, I felt like something is wrong with the weight shifting. It's most likely build of heavy materials which is cause of the overshoot as well but when walking it looks like this isn't accounted for. The centre of mass doesn't look right when the robot is standing on one leg during the walk.
