For Blender 3.4x Cycles Render

The cute penguin from "Caminandes: Llamigos"

This version includes:

  1. Removed keyframes in the oti.blend file
  2. Set child particle amount to production amount.
  3. Set most parameters to be library overridable.

Notes on how to use the character

  1. Put your 3D cursor in the Origin of your scene. Choose File > Link and browse the character file
  2. Go to the Collections and select CH-Oti. Make sure "Instance Collections" is enabled. Press Enter.
  3. The Collection should appear instanced in the Viewport. Select it.
  4. Choose Object > Library Override > Make.
  5. If the model is too heavy, enable Simplify in the Render Settings or in pose mode, select the cogwheel properties bone and lower the model resolution.
  6. Pose the model to your liking and enjoy!

Being still a newbie on Blender I need more information what to do after step 4. Now that I have the character in my model what can I do with the character? Is there a more detailed tutorial teaching me what I can do and how to create an animation with the character? Or what is the common practice dealing with the character?

@Zågwerk thanks for reaching out, you can take a look at Rik's workflow here: https://studio.blender.org/training/artist-workflow/rik-schutte-animation/ and you might want to watch this video step-by-step here: https://studio.blender.org/projects/sprite-fright/394e83f00b4b5c/?asset=5086

Hey Beau, I’ve spent weeks trying to figure out how to get the motion path to show up for animating with Oti, but only a dot appears. I’ve downloaded older Blender versions and tried a lot of other things, but I can’t find any information online beyond the default suggestions for fixing it. Do you know what might be causing this and how I could resolve it? :)

Hi @Shaun Mckenzie, it took some time to look into the matter. The main culprit is the generate_customprops.py that prevents drawing the motion paths. If you open this file in 4.5 and delete the script, save and relaunch Blender it should work. But it is quite slow to update because it has to evaluate a lot of data.

Does this character come with an IK/FK switch, or will I need to set it up myself? 🙂

@Shaun Mckenzie I double checked but couldn't find any proper sliders, you will have to set that up yourself :).

Hi Beau, Why can't keyframes be deleted and curves edited when OTHI is imported using link/Library override/make?

@jean-jacques Lonni the original file contained a keyframe that I have deleted. If you redownload the file it should be fixed or you can delete the keyframe in your oti.blend. Did this solve your issue?

Its terrific that your team has updated previous characters to work well with the newest versions of Blender.  Thanks!
