Report Problem

Following the discussion about Blender Studio's next steps for 2026, today we announce OVERGROWN, our feature film project!. On the project's page, you can find all the details: what’s the idea, why is this important, and what is needed to make it happen.

Visual development for OVERGROWN
Visual development for OVERGROWN

The production of a film will enable us to build a 'feature playbook': a collection of open source tools and documentation on how to tackle large-scale productions. This open knowledge is currently missing from the filmmaking landscape.

By pursuing this, we wish to improve local and artist-centric creation, not depending on cloud services or generative AI.

To make it happen, Blender Studio needs more subscribers! We want to reach 7,000 subscribers by the beginning of September: this lucky number will cover the minimum base we need to get the feature pitch to the next stage, where we go to the film market and look for buyers and distributors.

Join us in this exciting quest, and support Blender Studio! If you already are a Blender Studio subscriber, thank you. We could not have started this without you. If you have any questions about the OVERGROWN project, simply leave a comment.

Oups, forgot we cant press "enter"... On the 20/80.. Does it mean all previz (whole film), story, the rigs and a few asset will be made for the external partner ? An horizontal bar would be great to follow how much Blender Studio subscribers there is and what the goal is. Thx !
