This week I started lighting the layout for the sailing sequences and did more adjustments on the sinking (reef) shots which were set dressed beautifully by Beau! More renders next week!
This week I looked into combining the broken shard version of Mikassa with the underlying glow of the light body and did another pass of brush strokes and shading on the boat.
I finally got around to do the shading for the fish background characters. This was really fun to do with the brush system in place as the preview with Eevee is pretty good in an isolated lighting environment, so the workflow is actually real-time.
This week I spent time on set dressing the reef and helping Simon out with the whale cracks.
This week I've been set dressing the return set, which has been build by Julien previously. This set contains rocks and corals as previous sets, but the mood is more bright and positive. This process will continue over the next couple of weeks.
This week I did various iterations through the underwater reef set. Beau created some awesome corals a while ago, which we placed in the set. I went over the brushstrokes and materials of those corals to make them more painterly.
I started shading on the whale with an initial brush stroke pass. Other than that I prepared the whale to be cut into shards like Mikassa, UV unwrapped some fish and worked more on our addon to scribble brush strokes on top of animated mehses.
Sequence 040_going_deeper was close to being finished in layout this week, so I went through the shot files and gave them a very quick lighting pass. The only snag was that after the pre-lighting had been completed, the framing and lenses were changed which required some last minute re-work.
Among other tasks, made a shard proposal for the sequences in the Abyss.
This week, i made the first pass previs for the first scene: 010_intro_mikassa. Got some small notes on it, but generally this will be the beginning of the film. So spoilers ahead! Be warned!
This week I worked more on Mikassa shading, started bringing together the light body version and the shards version of her and worked on integrating the functionality to draw on deforming geometry into our workflow.
This week I worked on layout for seq 90, when Mikassa is joining the whale after climbing up the abyss
