In order to connect the ribbon mesh to the armature, we'll be creating helper empties. These empties will be the points where the deformation bones can aim towards. Additionally they will be used for the lip zipper as well.
Is there a deeper reason we're using empties here instead of a bunch of temporary bones in a new bone group? For me, it seems a bit easier to set up bones and symmetrize them to the other side.
@Benjamin Kiener You could indeed use bones for this as well, where mirroring them might be easier. I used empties mainly due to their simplicity and as they only need to function as pointers. Quick vertex parenting instead of using constrains also had my preference, but bones would work just fine as well.
